Photo of Alan Neech
Alan was born to parents John Leonard and Edith Mather. He was continually "bobbing in" through the fence to visit their neighbours, Alan and Alice Neech, and thereby gained the nickname 'Bobby' and later as 'Robert'.
The Neech's, both school teachers, loved and regarded him as the son they themselves never had, and took him to England to educate him.
His overseas education did not prevent him, however, from working as a jackaroo on some stations out west.
In 1939, Alan changed his surname by Deed Poll from Leonard to Neech. Click here for information regarding Alan recorded under his "Leonard" surname.
