[From Pattie Butler's email ...]
His nickname, Bobby, was affectionately given to him by their neighbours, Mr and Mrs Neech, as he continually kept "bobbing in" through the fence.
The Neech's, both school teachers, loved and regarded him as the son they themselves never had, and took him to England to educate him.
His overseas education did not prevent him, however, from working as a jackaroo on some stations out west.
In 1939 he changed his surname by Deed Poll from Leonard to Neech. Click here for information regarding Alan recorded under his "Neech" surname.
