Terry Emery reported that "John Vernon Hugh Courtney was fostered by the Sharman family. About the time ( or just before) that John joined the Household Cavalry, he decided to adopt his long term foster parents name, and subsequently became known as John Vernon Hugh Sharman-Courtney and has gone by that name ever since.
